Melissa is the most organized member of my team. She keeps us all on track and is the first to notice if a weekly task is falling behind. At times, I've traveled outside the country where I wasn't accessible, and I completely trusted that Melissa would keep the wheels turning and handle any issues that arose while I was gone.

She is that rare person you can completely trust with any responsibility or task. She works well without supervision, keeps track of deadlines and due dates, is able to self-train to a large extent, and manages complex processes. For my business, she had to learn how to use several apps, including Yoast, Canva, and MeetEdgar. She learned them very quickly, with only a little instruction, and manages them well. She's always agreeable and pleasant, a joy to work with. If you need a VA, you can't do better than Melissa Parra.

How to Ease Back Into Business Mode (Without Overwhelming Yourself)

August 28, 20252 min read

Whether you’re coming back from a vacation, summer break, or just a slower season, it’s completely normal to feel a little off when you return to work. The full inbox, disrupted routines, and that foggy “not quite in focus mode” brain can make re-entry feel overwhelming.

Here’s the good news: it doesn’t have to be. You don’t need to dive headfirst into an overflowing to-do list or push yourself into long workdays to get “caught up” right away. Easing back in can actually fuel more creativity, clarity, and flow.

Let’s reframe this transition: instead of “playing catch-up,” think of it as resetting and refocusing your business. Give yourself permission to take a breath, create a plan, and step back into things at a pace that works for you.

Practical Tips for a Smooth Re-Entry

1. Start with Priorities
Not everything needs to happen right away. Choose your top three tasks for the week and make those your focus. By setting clear priorities, you can feel productive without burning yourself out.

2. Time Block Your Days
Instead of jumping straight back into long workdays, carve out focused blocks of time. Even a few structured hours can help you rebuild momentum without draining your energy.

3. Lean on Your Systems
This is where workflows, automations, and supportive tools make a huge difference. When you’ve set up systems to do the heavy lifting, you can give yourself breathing room as you ease back in.

4. Batch and Delegate
You don’t have to do everything at once. If you have a team, delegate what you can. If not, batch similar tasks together so you can regain flow without constant switching.

A Mindset Shift That Helps

One thing I’ve learned (both before vacations and after them) is this: you can prepare as much as possible before stepping away, but you can’t always control what you’ll come back to. What you can control is your approach.

When you give yourself grace, pause to reframe, and let your systems support you, re-entry feels smoother and far less stressful. A streamlined onboarding workflow, for example, means you’re not scrambling if a new client comes in while you’re out — your business already has the structure in place to keep things moving forward.

And, if your re-entry feels slower than expected, that’s okay. Productivity isn’t about speed; it’s about direction. Focus on structure, flow, and systems, and you’ll find yourself back in business mode without the overwhelm.

Getting back into business mode doesn’t have to feel chaotic.

During a Workflow & Automation Strategy Call, we’ll simplify your processes, uncover time-saving automations, and set up a workflow that helps you stay on track, without frustration or burning out.
